Sharing a bit of history... or been there, done that!

After some responses about our trip, I wanted to give everyone some history. For those with worries about us being on the road... please don't worry! We have been there, done that!

Our last base was Anchorage, Alaksa. Kent was sent to Saudi Arabia for 6 months. We knew that we were going to be getting orders and that it would probably be our last summer in Alaska. I planned on spending the last summer RVing with the boys. About 2 weeks after Kent left, orders came down. We would be moving to Spain.

That was a shock! We owned our house in Wasilla, AK and did not know how we would be able to take care of it or rent it being in a different country. We also had 2 cars (with car payments) and a used motorhome that I had just purchased. After much disussion with Kent, we decided to sell the house, sell a car, and leave the RV in New York with my mom.

Now, there are two ways to get a motorhome from Alaska to New York...
1. Ship it
2. Drive it

Guess what I chose?? We left at the very beginning of September, after I put all of our belongings in a storage area and put our house on the market. We took the ferry from Haines, Alaska to Bellingham, Washington. We then headed down the West Coast and then across the US to New York. We spent Christmas in New York and when Kent returned to Alaska, our orders to Spain were cancelled. When we finally got our orders to New Mexico, Kent flew to New York and joined us for the rest of our trip.

I am really excited to be able to have the chance to do another trip. This one will be more challenging as both kids will be homeschooled, and I will be continuing my degree. We may last a whole year, we may head to Delaware earlier than that... but the plans are open and we are willing to be flexible. We have a backup plan, and lots of support.
